{which is World History – 1/4}

Genesis, Deuteronomy, & Ancient Egypt (Simply Charlotte Mason’s Module 1)
{which is World History – 1/7}

Any thoughts?

Discipleship Deliberation

Discipleship Deliberation

Discipleship Deliberation

The week in general ~
What a week! :-O
But, we made it through:
– Mr. C. out of town for work.
– Mrs. C. pouting & missing Mr.C. (Oh, yes I did. Not the best attitude but it was mine.)
– getting locked out of the car.
– therefore, being stranded in Sam’s parking lot for a few hours with the boys.
Uuuuugggghhh 😐
– Praise The Lord for AAA
– HomeSchool ministry Mother’s Meeting. **I look forward to these Every Month.

In our studies this week ~
CJ- Math:
Finished lofApples &
began lofButterflies
KC & KJ- Math:
Both finished their book on Subtraction
& began the next SmartAlec book

MrsC- Rearranged the family job chart,
which places more responsibility on the boys to help track their progress and earnings.

What needs some tweaking ~
Decided to “simmer down” our lessons for the rest of the year.
We’ll focus on finishing the Bible & History lessons together from mfwADV.

My own discipleship ~
I have quite a few books I want to read; but “Oh! look at the time” 😉 lol
(in the voice of Archibald Asparagus, Veggie Tales)

Since a consistent focus is needed over here, I’m going to start over in “The Resolution for Women” ()

The best thing about the week ~
Mr. C. getting back!
*deep sigh*

Questions, comments, thoughts ~

— CJ is doing GREAT in his guitar lessons.

thinking ahead, out loud

I have been thinking and reading more and more about Charlotte Mason approach to Education.
So now I need the most cost effective option to use for History.
Still can’t really decide if we should continue with American or switch to World.
I’m currently down to:

• A Living History of World (Queen HomeSchool)
• Mystery of History (Bright Idea)
• Genesis, Deuteronomy, & Ancient Egypt (Simply Charlotte Mason’s Module 1) or

Any thoughts?

HSJ 1.2- birthdays, soccer, & precepts

I was trying to wait to write this on the computer and add in pics. But, Mr. C. has been working in the office. So, I’m using the mobile wordpress app. instead because I don’t want to miss the link-up.
-maybe I’ll edit, and add in links and pics later-

In my life this week…
We’ve celebrated more birthdays, began UpwardSoccer season (times 3), and simplified (well, a little)

My favorite thing this week was…
The ability to Surprise Mr.C.
It’s Rare! VERY Rare!
I’m not good at surprising him Mainly because he’s my best friend and I tell him everything.
So, the only reason it probably worked, was because I didn’t organize all the details. Those were left in another pair of capable hands.
(Thanks, JD)
Point is:
He was Surprised. Really Surprised. & Happy. Which made me a Happy Wife.

I’m cooking…
Usually I make and fry our turkey meatballs. However, this last time I made a batch with 2.5lbs of turkey meat, so I decided to bake them instead.
❤ They were loved by all my guys 😉

I’m reading…
I have a few books I want to read. But, I think I NEED to read “Habits Revisited.”

Things I’m working on…
Still, working on waking up early, (and staying awake 😉 to get the day started) consistently.

What’s working/not working for us…
It was discovered that our family schedule has quickly gotten a little too busy in outside activities. Having something almost everyday of the week. Ummmm, no! We’ve done that before and I don’t want to do it again.
+ we need to leave room for those God-planned not man planned-moments.
We had a family meeting and came to the tough decision to set aside some of those commitments.

In our homeschool this week…
Despite All the activities, fun and outings we were able to get Bible, Math, Reading, Handwriting, and English completed consistently. Hooray!! 😀
I’m looking ahead towards our 2012 Education Plan via a more focused Charlotte Mason Approach.

CJ’s language lesson involved writing Limericks. This one makes me laugh:

There was an old man from New York
Who never would eat with a fork
He worked with manure
And then in the sewer
Went home and ate ten day old pork

Questions/thoughts I have…
I have been told more than a few times, that I have a gift for editing.
I KNOW I’m not a writer. But, I frequently get calls, asking to spell a word or verbally edit a sentence.
Wondering if that is something God could use to financially bless my family.
#just a thought.

I am inspired by…
Kay Arthur!
Had the Amazing Opportunity one evening to listen to Kay, Live in-person. WOW!!

HSJ 1.1- celebrations, narnia, & probe

This is my first entry into the MunroePalms HomeSchool Journal linked up with The Homeschool Chick.
I wanted to try a weekly recap but, I needed a template to guide me. So, I searched through the blog-O-sphere & this is the one I’m trying.
(though, I’m not promising it will be EvErY week) 😉

Since, this is the 1st I will include things from the past few weeks:

In my life this week…
The last few weeks we’ve celebrated my birthday and our anniversary. 🙂 8) So, things have been a little more lax in the area of directed education.
Also, our local area public schools began their new scholastic year. These weeks are transitional for us since it impacts Mr.C.’s work schedule, it therefore affects our school schedule.
I may just plan to purposely take a rest during this time next year.

In our homeschool this week…
Throughout this year we have been reading the entire Chronicles Of Narnia series.
We have Finally Finished!!

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…
If a curriculum resource is not working…… its ok to stop using it.
I know, I know, I know. This is a lot easier to say than to do. And I’m sure I’ll need to revisit this again.
I had to do this mfw1st. I love the program, it’s layout and it’s objectives, but the twins need something not so aggressive, right now. I may possibly pull it back off the shelf in January, when they officially begin 1st grade at MunroePalms. Until then, I brought them back into the Reading Lesson.

I am inspired by…
He really and truly displays love for me in the way God intended. It leaves me in more awe as to the love God has for me.

Places we’re going, people we’re seeing…
& My favorite thing this week was…

Peaceful Celebration at the beach

What’s working/not working for us…
The boys and I have begun a weekly class to learn ASL. I LOVE it. CJ Loves it. And despite getting a little restless towards the end of the 90 min. class, KC & KJ Love it.

Questions/thoughts I have…

Things I’m working on…
Joining the rest of my house of early risers. On the occasions that I have begun My day before the guys, things flow ALOT smoother.
It’s really Discipline  & Consistency.

I’m reading…

I’m cooking…
Spaghetti Bolognese

I’m grateful for…
My husband, Mr.C.! After 11 years of being his wife, with All my imperfections, he continues to CHOOSE me. 🙂

I’m praying for…

My sons. I joined up with
so I’m spending the some time focused on praying for CJ, KC, & KJ.

A photo, video, link, or quote to share…
Mr. C. also runs a production company: C-Scope 20/20. Which is expanding programming. I was featured in this HomeSchool Edition of PROBE.

I Found It!

My new friend, Stef Layton @ Educating Layton posted on her facebook earlier this week that she found hers.
I asked her to come help  me find mine.
#Not this time.
But, with a little LOT of encouragement from Mr.C.  my desk has been rescued from a paper burial.

I knew it was there, somewhere!

I have yet to post about our school room (The Great Room), it’s miraculous transformation, and my adventures in trying to sort it out.
The whole learning space is not completely clean and organized. Nope. Still not done yet.
But, this is definitely a step in the right direction.

2011 Home Education Plan

This is our 2011 Home Education Plan; and I am so very excited to be able to join in on
Heart of the Matter’s “Not Back-to-School” Blog Hop.
Here at MunroePalms Learning Centre, our school year runs from January to December.
So, I’m sharing what we have used since Jan. as well as what we plan to use through the end of Dec.

All Together

~My Father’s World from A-Z
>>We had a great time working through this together.
~Adventures In My Father’s World
>>We’re just beginning to pick this back up again.

~The Chronicles of Narnia
>>This includes the whole book set, the Focus On The Family radio drama series, the movies made by the BBC (I watched them all as a little girl), as well as the new movies by Disney/Walden Media.

~Rosetta Stone-Spanish
>>This was our major purchase this year & we’re just getting into it. So far, so good.
~Signing Time
>>Not using the DVDs in any particular order, just what we can get from the library.

~I Can Do All Things
>>We’re going to “try” to do this together.

~Upward Sports-Soccer
>>All the boys LOVE this & are waiting in eager anticipation for the season to begin. (Not ’til the end of September.)
~Family Sports Day
>>Directed by Mr. C., these are days where the whole family hits the field/park for any sport to learn, play, or practice. This also includes Nature Walks/Rides on the county trail.
>>One of the boys rotating Jobs is to be “Chef.” The Chef assists in the Kitchen for Lunch & Dinner.(which means none of the other boys are crowding in there when it’s not their turn) I plan to use one those days to show them how to cook a real meal using the Microwave. (Starting with CJ first)

CJ – 3rd grade

~Math Mammoth 1A/1B/2A/2B
>>We worked through these so he could use…
~Teaching Textbooks Math 4
>>CJ has been wanting to use this for SO long. Now, that he’s ready, he is doing Very Well. 🙂

~Language Lessons for the Very Young 2
>>After he finished this in May we tried Emma Serl’s Primary Language Lessons and Rod & Staff English. But…
~Language Lessons for the Elementary Child 1
>>This is what he prefers so we will continue with the series.
~Spelling Power
>>CJ likes only studying the words he doesn’t know and he loooks forward to discovering the activities he gets to choose from. (I prepare 2 or 3 each week and let him pick one each day.)
~Getty-Dubay Italic D
>>I LOVE the end result and this is helping his writing look neat again. (He did not do well with the program they used at the private school.)
~Writing Strands 2
>>We’ll begin this in Sept./Oct. at a slow pace. Maybe once a week.
~ABEKA Readers
>>I love that I can get some of these at our local used bookstore 🙂

Ms.Jenni & Mrs.C. (best friends since 6th grade)

~ Private Guitar Lessons
>>He LOVES this special time each week with Ms. Jenni. ❤
(& I love that it means that as busy as life gets, I get to see my best friend every week.) 😉

KC & KJ – Kindergarten

~The Reading Lesson Book
>>They REALLY enjoy doing this together and the CD-Rom for Computer Time.
~My Father’s World 1st
>>We just started this since completing the phonics portion of mfwA-Z. If it’s too much, we’ll just finish The Reading Lesson.
~Getty-Dubay Italic B
>>Going very slowly with them on this. A little at a time.
~ABEKA Readers
>>did I mention about finding these at the local used bookstore? 😉

~Smart Alec Math Problem Solving PK
>>I love this series. They’re very inexpensive and I used them with CJ when he was at this stage.
~Smart Alec Math Problem Solving K
>>They’ve actually completed these books already.
~Cuisenaire Rods Math
>>I have a Really Old teachers book we’re doing activities out of for a while. They may move into Math Mammoth 1A.

But, I JUST found Math Lessons for a Living Education and I think this would suit them better. (Plus, it’s based on a story about twins.) 😉
